Late Thanksgiving Entry

I spent Thanksgiving with Jim's family. Erik and I took the Capitol Corridor Amtrak train up to Sacramento. It was so nice to be on a train, and the view was great. We spotted traffic on the freeways and were really glad we weren't part of it. The tickets, despite being bought at "holiday" prices, were still dirt cheap--$20 apiece.

Now that I'm done with apps, I have time to read again. I read three books over that weekend (all fiction for once!): Battle Royale by Koushun Takami, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. All three were very good.

Somewhat unfortunately, I preferred the Battle Royale book over the movie, and now a movie that I really liked has sort of lost its luster.

Life of Pi was darker than I expected, but it was still very informative about animals and staying alive in the middle of the ocean.

The Curious Incident was great, and it was nice to go inside the mind of a 15-year-old autistic boy.

I expect to be reading more fiction now that I've read three and liked all three. Now, any of you fiction readers out there have any recommendations? I prefer stories that have some sort of fantastic angle to it; I tend to frown upon too-realistic family trouble books. I also hate frilly language or, of course, clichéd language.
